Puyo Puyo, originating in Japan, is a classic puzzle game where players strategically drop colorful Puyo (gelatinous creatures) to create chains and eliminate them from the playfield. The faster and more efficiently a player clears Puyos, the more Puyos are sent to their opponent's field. The game's simple yet engaging mechanics and competitive nature established it as a staple in Japanese arcades before its global expansion. Its simple rules and frantic gameplay created the foundations for a game that has had many sequels, spin-offs and iterations for decades. While variations such as Puyo Puyo Tsu (a mobile version) exist, the original arcade versions marked the genesis of this beloved puzzle game, with different versions released across different regions showcasing slight variations in gameplay and design.
